Fireplace
We're so excited! The contractor building our mantel and hearth, dropped off the hearth to us the other day. So, now it was time for the plumber to come and hook up the gas and vent it out the side of the house. This morning they showed up early and worked until noon. It is up and running and functional. Now our contractor will return this week and add the beautiful oak wood casing and mantel around it. We are going to just love it, I know!

Anyone who has visited Capella University's website before has probably seen their Inside Online Education podcast. These podcasts are put on regularly and basically provide interviews with currently faculty and students for those who are considering the school to listen to. They cover a variety of topics that will help interested people make an informed decision as to whether or not Capella is right for them. Wind
This past Sunday we had extreme winds in the area. Up to 67 mph winds were reported. There were trees that were damaged and some power lines down. We received just a little snow, but it didn't stay long. Since then we have had nice warm days and it sounds like that trend will continue through the weekend. It will be nice for all of the little kids out trick or treating tomorrow night. I prefer the nice warm weather.
Bows
Every time Zoe goes in for a haircut she gets little bows of ribbon put in her hair. They are attached with small rubber bands. They almost look like Ortho bands. I don't think she has ever gone more than a day after the haircut without losing at least one of the bows. They look very cute while they stay in, which isn't for long.

Election
I have heard several people say that they are tired of hearing about politics. I think it is our responsibility to vote but I too am plenty tired of the current process. It is hard to find a television channel without coming across something about the campaign. Being president would be a tough job and I certainly wouldn't want it. I am glad there are those who do have an interest in the position. I encourage everyone to get out and vote but know the facts before you do. Your vote does count.
Restaurant Reviews
I think that one thing most people today would say that they enjoy, is to dine out once in a while. I know as I grow older especially, my husband and I both enjoy food and the dinning experience. When traveling a distance from home, we sometimes are not really sure what type of an establishment might be of interest to us. We have needed guidance from an outside source. Now with restaurantica.com it has been made easy and quick for us to research restaurants. This site has a great base for restaurant reviews. You can name the state and even the city and search to find the dinning experience you are looking for. With a future trip planned for Pennsylvania, we are looking at the Philadelphia restaurants. It is user friendly and has so many types of foods to choose from. The restaurants are ranked from top to less popular in choices. The Cuisines are listed and locations and phone numbers shown. There are details given for each one such as Attire, Alcohol, Parking etc... With the personal reviews added besides, you are sure to get a feel of whether or not this is your type of place. I am looking forward to using this awesome website. Restaurantica has over 700,000 browsers each month and are a proud member of the United States National Restaurant Association (NRA) and the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA). Click in and join the thousands that have found this site to be very helpful!
Grooming
It was that time again. I ran Zoe over to her groomer today. It is about ten miles from home, but worth the drive. We have been very satisfied with how she has been looking. Poor Zoe had some really bad hair cuts in the past. Most of us can say the same. So when you find the right groomer, you stick with them. Well, today when we walked in, we found out that they had hired a new gal. Her name is Shelly and she pretty much did what I had asked her to do. Zoe's ears are a little bit shorter then usual, but she is looking good. I think we'll continue driving the ten miles every six weeks or so.

Warmth A Comin'
Soon we will have our new fireplace installed. What a happy day that will be. It would be nice right now to be able to turn the fireplace up and take the chill off. It should be installed within the next week or so. I am very excited. When we built our addition back in 1999 we did so with the idea of having a fireplace someday. Someday has arrived!

Burrrrr!!
Wow, what a change in temperature! Just the other day it was in the 60's, last night was in the 30's, tonight is supposed to be in the teens and then back to above 60 by Thursday. That is just wild, isn't it? Last night there were wind gusts of over 60 miles per hour. We even had a bit of snow mixed in yesterday. There is actually some snow left on the ground. I am not ready for winter.

The Doctors
It's no secret that I deal with migraines. I have had them quite frequently. I am one that thinks I need to plug on and continue through my day if at all possible. Due to this fact, most times I will suffer more then I would need too. I have doctored and found that laying down and sleeping is the best way to combat these terrible headaches and when I don't, they often worsen through out the day. My daughter, who also suffers, was telling me about a show "The Doctors" that she had been watching. On this show they were talking about headaches. Dr. Lisa said that there are five types: Sinus, cluster, tension, migraine and hormonal. She explained that headaches are more common in women then men due to hormonal changes. Migraines often affect one side of the head and are relieved by sleep. They then had Dr. Ordon explain the new technique of Botox injections. The injections are growing in popularity for treatment of migraines. It is injected into the sensory nerves that send pain impulses to the brain. They then demonstrated this technique on a 30 year old women and it seemed to help her.
They are also coming out with what they call the Headache Zapper. It is a hand held machine that is placed at the back of the head and sends a magnetic pulse to help block off the onset of a migraine. It must be administered to a person that can sense an aura. Research is showing that one zap can keep the doctor away. Since I don't get an aura or warning of any kind before getting a migraine, this machine would not work for me. The botox injections may be a new and upcoming thing. I'll have to keep watching it's progress. But, for now I need to learn to take care of me. I am trying to talk to myself and say, stay home, go to bed and then hopefully feel better quicker then I usually do. I feel for all of you out there that suffer with migraines.

A few years ago my kids started getting involved with Facebook. At the time I didn't really know very much about it, just that they could communicate with friends through this site. It was also restricted to high school and college age at that time. Now it has opened up to all ages. My daughter decided that she would help set up an account for me. Since then I have had close to 70 friends join and it's fun to stay connected. It's a great way to share photos and current information with others. I think I'll continue.

The View
The ladies of The View
The View. Well, what can I say. I do turn it on once in awhile. I'm not usually home to even watch. When I do, it's to support Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She is my favorite on the show. Joy Behar is so opinionated and doesn't want to hear what anyone else has to say. She can really turn me off. Barbara Walters is not much better in my eyes. But, I do enjoy listening to what Elisabeth has to say. That is if they give her a chance to speak.

Diet and Exercise
What do you consider a healthier lifestyle? I have been researching information on this subject. When it comes to your age, do you feel your age or younger? Maybe you are feeling older? I am finding that there are a lot of different issues that can effect the way you feel and possibly lengthen your life. If we want to keep these bodies around for a while, then we must take care of them. Diet, exercise, safety in traveling, health issues, what is in our genes, habits and more, all can play a roll. Test yourself and see where you stand in the fight against aging.
BuySAFE Shopping Advisor
Shopping, one of my favorite subjects. Today, however it is a bigger concern for many. With the rising costs of fuel and the economy in the shape that it is in, people are thinking first before jumping into their vehicles and traveling very far from home. It has become easier to sit down in the comforts of our homes and shop on the internet. With that of course, comes the concerns of safety and protection. Who can you trust when making those on line purchases? Is it a scam or are they legitimate? No with the buySAFEbuySAFE shopping Advisor you can have a tool that can assist you in a safer and more secure shopping network. The Shopping Advisor can give you a doorway to those Bonded Merchants where you will find your purchases to be automatically protected by a bond guarantee. This guarantee is up to $25,000 and also includes identity theft insurance, all at NO COST to you! WOW, a person can't beat that. With over 320,000 eCommerce sites to search from, you are sure to find what you are needing. They work along side of Google, Yahoo, MSN and eBay. I'm sure you have heard of them before. I have found myself internet shopping more and more. It saves me time and money. Now I no longer have the concerns of safety and security. BuySAFE will be there for me. You too can go to this site and download your free BuySAFE application today.
Travel
I decided I would join my husband on a business trip. It is always fun to get away from the everyday life. We are in a very beautiful area where the amazing fall colors are everywhere to be seen. I love this time of year. The air is crisp and God's beauty is all around us. It's nice to take time to enjoy the view.
RealAge Test
I think that most of us are somewhat concerned with living a healthier lifestyle. We want to eat the right things, do the right things to lengthen our lives. What are the correct things to be doing? Is it our foods we should be monitoring? Is it more exercise? Maybe, it's how extra curricular activities? Are you a smoker or a drinker? There are many areas that can effect our well-being. I came across this RealAge Test. I found it to be quite interesting. It begins with some simple questions about your life style and family history. It then goes into health issues and covers medications you may be taking and how and if they were prescribed for the ailment. There are also safety issues covered. You will be asked how often you are in a vehicle. Are you the driver? Do you have airbags? How fast do you drive and are you on the cell phone while driving? It will also go into the area of exercise and more. I would say most days I feel pretty much the age that I am. Maybe, a little bit younger. This test helped me evaluate how well I may or may not be taking care of the only body I'm going to have. The results say that I am two years older then I really am. I must take a look at my diet and exercise for my future. Take the RealAge Test! It's free! You have nothing to lose. Only to gain.
Halloween
Well, it's that time of year. Halloween is around the corner and so is the candy. It is everywhere. Just what we do not need around our house. I am so bad about buying it though. It's fairly inexpensive and satisfies my cravings. You name it we have it on our counter. Whether it's chocolate or something sour, I usually have purchased it. From now until Easter, they put out some great sweet stuff. It sure makes it difficult to lose weight.
Search Engine
I spend quite a bit of time on the computer and have found that technology continues to advance. Years ago when I first was introduced to the internet, I had a healthy fear of it. I wasn't sure what I was doing or what I might do to our computer. It was difficult to maneuver and find my way around. It would take a lot of time just to figure out where to go and what I needed to do, before finding information I was in search of. Today there are several different search engines out there. Which are the best? Which are easy to use? Sometimes trying to remember how to get to them is a process. Now there is the Find.com Search Engine. It is amazing! Talk about user friendly and easily remembered. There are search engine names that are quite forgettable. How could a person forget find.com? It's made simple. I like that. A person can Find Jobs or Find People with very little effort. This search engine does the work for you. If you are looking to Find Friend, recreation, electronics, science, politics you name it, let find.com do the work for you. Click in and browse this search engine. I think you will like it also.

Born Alive
I heard about this website and what has gone on in our Government. It touched my heart. You may want to check out this site for yourself. This information has been on FOX news as well. It is sad to think that some feel that a small life doesn't have a right to live. There are others that believe differently. I am one of them along with President Bush.

Dansko
I take pleasure in shopping and one of the things I love to buy is shoes, shoes of every kind. If I have a new outfit I would like shoes to match. They are an important part of the apparel. Women have so many choices out there. Sandals, clogs, and boots you name it. Dansko carries just about everything you may be looking for. They have style while still delivering comfort. I'm excited to own my next pair!

Micro SD
I can remember purchasing our first computer. At the time the salesman said that we would never run out of space. It would do us for the life of the computer. He was wrong. It was less then a year and we were looking to buy more memory and maybe a micro sd memory card besides. Throughout the years our children have used memory cards to hold there school work and travel from home to class. They are definitely needed.

Puppy Training
I have been in conversations as of late that were about puppy training. I am no pro on the subject, but find it interesting. We have a seven year old Bichon who was very easy to potty train. I could count on one hand how many accidence she had in our home. We were told early on that a "bell" system could come in handy. We hung a bell by a string on the door that our dog goes out. We showed her how to bat at it so that we could hear her and quickly take her outside. She learned fast and she still uses it. I'm thankful that it was fairly easy to train her. I’d read a shocking statistic that the #1 reason a dog ends up in a shelter was because of housebreaking problems. I'm glad that Zoe didn't end up one of those statistics. There is a lot of information available now on line. Don't let your pet become a statistic.
Fall
This is such a beautiful time of year. The weather is a bit unpredictable, but that's OK. In our area of the country, a person has to learn to dress for the occasion. We wear layers of clothes so that we can shed them as it warms up and put them back on as it cools off. Our grand daughter recently was outdoors exploring all nature has to offer. She hadn't played out in fall leave before. She will turn one in a week or so. She had a great time!

Weather
The weather today was awesome! It has warmed up again and was nice and sunny. My flowers are even blooming out on my deck yet. This weather can hang around for quite sometime. Winter seems so long anymore and the summers so short. I guess this is where we chose to live.

Jewelry is one of my favorite topics. It is such a nice gift for a variety of occasions. Now with Holsted jewelers, you can do your shopping from the comfort of your home. Web Cam
We haven’t had much time to use our new web cam lately. It seems to work much better than our older one. The little bit we have used it was in talking to Jake a week or so ago. Jake’s camera is built into his computer and it works great. It is so clear and crisp. Ours is a separate unit that can either mount on the monitor or sit on the desk. It does seem to be a lot clearer then our old one was. It has been hard to find time to try it, but soon we will need to use it again and chat with our kids.
Glasses
Recently Bill and I both got new eye glasses. Neither one of us are very happy with them. Bill has had some headaches and thinks they may be from wearing his new glasses. I suppose it is possible to have gotten a prescription that isn’t quite right, but I don’t think that would be very common. In my case, I am thinking it may be the shape of my frames that is causing my vision to appear differently. They are wider and more narrow now. I don't seem to have as wide an area of clear vision as I did with my older glasses. We will keep trying the glasses, but may have to go back for a correction.
Maritime Attorney
Have you heard of the Jones Act or other types of Maritime issues? Well, Mark & Associates are a personal injury law firm whose maritime attorney supports the Jones Act. The Jones Act is there to provide financial compensation to seamen who are injured while working on ships, oil rigs and other sea vessels. Senator Barack Obama is saying that he is going to support the long time federal law that protects these seamen, to make sure that they have equipment and ammunition that is needed when required. The administration will continue to support the Maritime Security Program. To find out more, click into www.maritimelegalrights.com or www.jonesactrights.com.
Election
I have enjoyed keeping up on the elections, both local and national. It will be nice, however, when it is over. We don't have any political signs in our yard, but many of the neighbors do. Some of the local candidates have come by the house and dropped off literature. We know several of the candidates and what their platforms are. It is good that there are people that feel strongly about running for office.
Fall
It's that time of year. The colors are changing. It has gone from green to rust, yellows and orange. It is sure pretty in the fall. The cool crisp mornings turn to warmer afternoons. It's hard to know how to dress. I guess in layers. Bill decided he should mow and clean up the yard before to long, so that is what he did this past weekend. He cleaned up and put away our deck furniture also. It looks kind of bare out there now. I have a pumpkin sitting out that reminds us of the colder temps soon to be here. I think we are going to go over to the river in a few weeks and really take in all of God's beautiful creation. The colors should be amazing.

Homemade Pea Soup
I decided that this would be the weekend I would make my Grandma's homemade pea soup. It has been a long time. We were actually home on Saturday, so it was the perfect time for it. You have to soak the peas over night in water and baking soda. Then in the morning I started the soup. It's really pretty easy. You just add water and begin boiling the peas. Add chopped potatoes and carrots to the water. Boil stew meat and onion slowly in a separate pan. When potatoes and carrots are softening, then add the meat and juice to the soup mixture. Continue to cook adding beef base and 1 tsp of baking soda. The soda must help break up the peas. Then the soup will thicken up and it's ready to eat. Boy, has it been good in this cool weather.

DVR
Bill and I usually watch one or two TV shows a week. We try not to get too hooked on anything. I must say, we do get quite hooked on American Idol when it's on though. Anyway, now that we have our DVR we are recording more of the investigation types of programs. We no longer have to worry about missing a show and always seem to have something to watch when we have a chance. We just bring up the DVR recordings and pick out what we would like to watch. We can fast forward through the commercials and get right to the show. It's a pretty handy recorder to have.
Weight Loss Diet Supplement
There are many people looking to lose weight today. Maybe that's you. There are different types of methods. It feels great to lose those extra pounds. Now to get motivated to do so.
CBN
I was just watching CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network). They are celebrating 47 years of broadcasting. WOW! I didn't realize they had been on TV that long. They were going back to the beginnings. It was quite interesting. I remember when my children were young, back in the 80's, I would watch the show quite often. CBN can help keep you informed on news as well as wonderful lifetime stories. Turn the station and give them a try.
