Over the years my husband and I have seen several of our friends injured in motorcycle accidents. I wonder if they had been wearing a Bell Star helmet if it may have made a difference. Was really sad to see how badly they were hurt. It has made me apprehensive to own a motorcycle. But it is nice that there is a lot of safe gear that a person can wear now.

Valentine’s Day is not far away and I’m already planning for the special day. It’s tough on a budget so I’ve been thinking about what we can do at our house that is not only money conscious but includes the whole family. My plan right now is to cook a nice dinner and serve it on our good china in the dining room—it will be like eating out at a fraction of the cost! We rarely use our good china for the adults and I don’t think the kids have ever eaten of it so it should be a real treat. I’ve started looking for recipes and am looking for something fancier than our everyday fair but easy to make. I already have all the ingredients for our family’s favorite flourless chocolate cake. It’s one thing I make maybe once a year that isn’t that hard just time consuming. After our fabulous fancy dinner, I’m hoping there will be a good movie on directtv that the family can watch together. I’m looking forward to it already!

When I was in school I really didn't have an interest in anything musical. Now I wish I would have been more involved in music and instruments. My kids all played an instrument while in school and I enjoyed listening at home and at concerts. My youngest child loved pounding on things and at one time wanted a snare drum. I have a small artificial tree with lights that I put on the front porch. We attached a timer to it so the lights come on about dusk and stay on for six hours. I remember when I needed to plug and unplug lights each night. The timer is so easy to set up too. Whoever designed it must have made a fortune. My sister has recently moved to our area from out of state. She has three small children. Her husband works long hours, so she is home a lot by herself with the kids. She told me that she has some concerns about feeling safe since she is not familiar with the area. She asked about my home security system and wanted some more information about home security. Oh what a blessing! Our 5th grandchild was born on Sunday. His name is Caysen Reed Gaskill! He weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was 20 inches long. He looks somewhat like his brother Kaden. What a sweetie.... :) We are blessed.... We are both trying to do all we can to help them out at home with the older children. When you have a c-section, you have to be especially careful and cannot do many things. So it is a blessing to us to be able to help them out in any way we can.

Last year, I started somewhat of a Thanksgiving tradition; at least I would like for it to become one. Most cities host a Thanksgiving Day road race that varies in distance. My city’s is called the Turkey Trot and it is an 8k, which is about 5 miles. I found out about the race through an email I received while I was checking out expertsatellite.com. This all started last year because it made me feel better about eating all of that good food if I woke up and ran first. Since it’s much easier to run with a group of people, this was the perfect solution. An added bonus is that it decreased the time I had to spend at my boyfriend’s mother’s house for Thanksgiving. I guess I started this tradition with my friend Erin, who ran it with me last year and is doing the same this year. She doesn’t have to travel for Thanksgiving, so it’s a no brainer for her. I wasn’t sure if my mom would go for me arriving midday, but surprisingly she did.

I did know that I had varicose veins. However, I did not realize all the problems they can cause. Also I did not know that many of the very symptoms I have are probably caused by my varicose veins, even though they are not visible to the naked eye. Having spider veins, I was surprised to learn they were one of the many causes from my varicose veins and that this was actually a vein disease. I have worn special stockings for years because of muscle cramps and aching legs and knew that my sedentary desk job helped the vein disease along. I knew people who had the veins stripped and some with bad results. I even asked my doctor why my legs felt tired and heavy, only to be given very little information about varicose veins as a cause. I have heard of the new methods they have now of closing these veins without removing them and that sounds very good to me. If I could have this done and improve the circulation and do away with many of my symptoms, I would be quite happy. I need to look into this further.

Our daughter had a doctor's appointment so I went over and stayed with the grandchildren. They are so full of energy and a real challenge to keep up with. There are those people that love to golf, those that enjoy the game but are not fanatic about it and those that don't understand why anyone would want to play the game. That is just my opinion of course. My husband is on the side of loving golf. He would go play every day if he could.
He has only had three sets of clubs in his life. He claims that his current set is better because they are a name brand. His other clubs had actually been made by a friend. He calls them knock off clubs because they resemble name brand but have a different name on them. I really don't know if it makes his golfing any better by using a club with a certain name on them. Does the ball really care what is hitting it? There are a lot of neat accessories out there on the market also.
I am sure you can tell which group I am in. You are right if you said the one that enjoys golf but isn't a fanatic. For those that are enthusiastic about golf, good for you. I am sure there are worse things to occupy ones time than golf.

A face of joy!

We began our weekend meeting our son's and family at Whiskey Creek. Yum! Then on Sat. morning we headed out to the Puckerbrush parade! The grand kids loved it, but it was very warm out. Heading up town we found something to eat and watched Josh and Diana painting faces and making balloon animals. Kaelyn had a face of joy showing off her newly painted face by Aunt Di! To cool off we headed home to play in the pool and sprinklers. This is Emry's face of joy! So sweet to see how happy they were.... The cousins had so much fun together. We grilled out and decided that the mosquitoes were so bad that we would skip the fireworks. Off to church in the morning and caught a nap in the afternoon. Then enjoyed a supper with ham roast, cheesy potatoes and corn on the cob! We also had birthday cake. It was Bill's birthday also! What an awesome weekend and great to have everyone home!

Summer has been my favorite season of the year for all of my life. I've always been someone who's loved being outdoors and doing active things. It's just much easier to do most of my favorite activities during the summer that way. I've tried to raise my family too. When my grandkids come and visit us during the summer, they know for sure that grandpa is up for taking them on just about any kind of outdoor adventure that they'd like to try.

One thing though that I wanted to do was come up with some fun outdoor things that we could do just at the house. Do you own an iPod? We are on our second one. The first one was not the newest model so we upgraded. There are a few features that the newer iPod has that weren't included in the old one. Crowd Control

Have you ever been at a sporting event, concert or even a Fair where they have had to control the crowd in some fashion? Well, recently my daughter-in-law, my grandsons and I were at a County Fair. They have what they call a Scramble, where the little kids run and scramble to grab a bunny. If they get one then they can keep it. The crowd was great and the people were shoving to get towards the front. Some sort of Stanchions was needed in this case.
Crowd control is very important so that people are not falling and possibly being hurt in the process. At concerts and sporting events you can find the same sort of problem arise. With barricades in place, they can shuffle the crowd in a certain direction, causing order and an even flow of traffic.
Airports also use some of these technique when forming lines throughout check-in. A velvet rope or barricades are often used there. It's important to have order for the well-being of everyone.

Recently my husband got a new cell phone. It is a Blackberry Bold. It has so many features that his old one didn't have that it is taking time to figure the thing out. I looked at it and wasn't real keen on the little keys. I am sure when you get used to them they aren't too bad. I hope he likes it.
